Staff/Student Worker Role Involving Travel and Driving
Required steps for driver safety training, which must be completed by all individuals who will be operating vehicles for UCLA-related business. This includes both student workers and staff.
Driver Safety Training Requirements
All drivers must complete the following steps:
Create a WorkSafe profile:
Visit the WorkSafe portal to create a new profile HERE.
Submit a Driver Safety Training Request:
After creating your profile, submit your training request HERE.

Select Appropriate Training:
For standard vehicles (car/light truck), choose UCLS Basic Driver Safety Training.
If the driver will also operate Motorized Carts (Golf, GEM, LSV, etc.), be sure to select that option as well.
Complete and Submit Form:
Fill in the remaining required information and submit the request.
Complete the Training:
Within 24 hours, the driver will receive an email with a link to begin the training. It must be completed within 10 days.

Once completed, training is valid for three years, unless the driver is involved in an accident.

UCLA-Owned Vehicles: Covered under the UC Self-Insurance Auto Program for Collision, Liability, and Comprehensive coverage when used for UCLA business.
Personal Vehicles Used for UCLA Business: The driver’s personal auto insurance is primary. The UC Self-Insurance Auto Program may provide secondary coverage, subject to review.
In addition, drivers must meet the minimum insurance requirements stated in UC Policy G-28, Section V.D.3.a.iii (Page 18) (link to full policy):That section states the following:
When private vehicles are used on University business, the appropriate campus officials are responsible for requiring that employees have adequate liability insurance coverage. The minimum prescribed liability insurance coverage is as follows: $50,000 for personal injury to, or death of, one person; $100,000 for injury to, or death of, two or more persons in one accident; and $50,000 for property damage. An employee who regularly uses a private vehicle on University business is required to have and provide upon request satisfactory evidence of liability insurance coverage.
