Providing Lactation Space for Visiting Employees
In accordance with UC Policy PPSM-84: Lactation Accommodation and California Labor Code §1031, all departments must provide lactating employees with:
A private, non-bathroom space to express milk, and
A reasonable amount of break time to do so.
Lactation spaces must be located within a five- to seven-minute walking distance from the employee’s work area. This requirement applies to both employees assigned to your department and those temporarily working in your space—for meetings, collaborative projects, or cross-departmental efforts.
We would like to remind you that a dedicated lactation room is available in Moore Hall, Room 2101. Employees and students requiring access can request the door code from the Building Operations team and Human Resources.
Departments are expected to ensure visiting lactating employees have timely access to a compliant space upon request. Supporting this need is essential for legal compliance and reflects UC’s commitment to a respectful, inclusive workplace.
